As it rolls, all surfaces scroll in the same direction at exactly the same surface speed .... there is no source of friction, so no lubrication is needed. The minor effect of rolling-friction still exists, but the slipping, sliding and rubbing that existes in prior mechanics is eliminated, resulting in friction so low that lubrication is not needed. Finally, totally lube-free rotary mechanics is a practical reality.
