Home > Scroller > ScrollerWheel - Size/Number

Roller sizes and numbers can vary between devices or within a single device.
Belt pattern is shown simplified:

Fig.23a

Note: Shaded rollers are examples of input/output combinations
(Link: Combinations)

  1. If you want it to be self-supporting .... 2 bands per outer roller.
  2. If you attach 2 shafts [in and out] to other equipment .... one band per outer roller.
  3. If you use a rigid outer sleeve .... one band per outer roller plus outer-bands of any number.
  4. If you use a flexible outer sleeve ... 2 bands per outer roller.

note: if you use more than 5 rollers, the inner-roller must be larger than the outer-rollers.

Large surfaces are difficult to grease, making lube-free scrollers well suited for large scale construction.

eg. Large hollow rollers with laminated fabric belts for a huge scroller assembly. ...windmills, ship props, ship bearings, giant pumps...

On a Micro-scale, grease acts more like an adhesive than a lubricant. The lack of sticky grease required makes scrollers ideal for micro-mechanics.
